County gives bank one more chance to sell foreclosed on property

The Brantley County Board of Commissioners decided at a called meeting Tuesday to allow the bank which owns several foreclosed properties near Atkinson one more chance to sell the plots, but not without a requirement that the county will receive full unpaid taxes, interests and penalties from the sale.

At the same time, the commissioners heard a proposal from commissioner Mike Edgy who explained how the property could be used as a “piggy bank” for the county by harvesting and replanting timber growing there, where paved roads would allow harvesters access to the trees even during wet months when timber sells at premium prices.

Commissioners instructed the county attorney to send a response to the Macon bank and agreed to consider Edgy’s proposal.
