The traffic stop of a fan on Interstate 95 in Kingsland yielded nearly 230 pounds of marijuana and the arrest of a Miami man, the Camden County Sheriff’s Office said.
Sgt. Cedric Brown of the Sheriff’s Office stopped a black Dodge Caravan about 3 p.m. Thursday that had made an improper lane change as it traveled south on Interstate 95, the Sheriff’s Office said in a prepared release.
When the driver stopped the van about 5 miles north of the state line, the driver was slow to roll down his window and, once he did, Brown smelled marijuana, the release said.
The driver denied smoking marijuana, a statement he later recanted, but he also refused Brown’s request to search the van.
A department dog, Chacal, alerted to the presence of drugs. Glynn County sheriff’s deputy Brian Faulk, who was riding with Brown, told the driver that Kingsland police officer Michael Walker and Brown were going to search the vehicle, the release said.
