Heinz gets eight life terms with no parole

Special to SEGAZINE

Guy Heinze Jr. was sentenced Thursday to serve eight life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole in the brutal beating deaths of his father and seven others in 2009.

Superior Court Judge Stephen Scarlett structured the sentences so that some of them will be served consecutively to others, meaning that should one or more be thrown out on appeal, Heinze will still have to serve life on the remaining convictions.

Scarlett also sentenced Heinze to 20 years in prison in the beating of the only survivor, Byron Jimerson Jr., who was 3 when his mother, Chrissy Toler, was beaten to death in the bedroom where they were sleeping. Now 7, Byron underwent months of hospitalization and rehabilitation as a result of his own severe head injuries.

Heinze also received a five-year sentence for possessing narcotics that were not prescribed to him and a year on a misdemeanor marijuana possession conviction.

It was the prescription pills, a generic form of Darvocet that belonged to victim Michael Toler, 19, that lead investigator Lt. William Daras said led to all the murders.
