Driver critical after train versus vehicle accident

Special to SEGAZINE

A Waycross woman is in critical condition after an accident involving a train off of Knight Avenue in Waycross, Thursday night.

According to a report filed by Trooper First Class Greg Stone, Lindsay Annett Joyce, 34, was traveling northbound on division road – a small connector road between Knight Avenue and Hwy. 82 – in her 2006 Chevrolet Equinox when she failed to see a train that was heading eastbound along the track.

The train struck the driver’s side door with its front bumper rail causing her vehicle to travel off the south side of the tracks approximately 60 feet while overturning several times.  The vehicle came to a rest in the ditch 31 feet off of Hwy. 82 and ejected Joyce.

Joyce was then transported by AirEvac to UF Shands in Jacksonville.

The report stated that Joyce failed to yield right-of-way and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

I was wearing my seatbelt. I ALWAYS wear my seatbelt. They think train dislodged when struck my vehicle.
