Jimmy Harris was suspended by the Charlton County Board of Education on Tuesday after rumors began circulating he had been taking inappropriate photographs of female students at the schools. Superintendent John Lairsey confirmed at the time that an investigation was underway.
”On Friday, the BOE held a special called meeting and discussed the matter behind closed doors for about 45 minutes. At the end of that session, Lairsey made a recommendation to accept Harris’ resignation and the board accepted that suggestion on a unanimous vote.
Contacted by the Herald, this week, Harris declined to comment on his resignation.The superintendent said the BOE agreed to confidentiality about the matter as part of Harris’ resignation adding that there were no actionable ethical or criminal issues revealed by their investigation.
Harris holds a master’s degree in education from Troy State University, a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southwestern State University, and is a 1983 graduate of Terrell Academy in Dawson.
