Rain, near-record warmth in the forecast

Drizzle and fog made for a dismal morning commute Tuesday, and forecasters are predicting more rain, along with near-record warmth, later in the week.Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton put the chance of rain at 40 percent Tuesday and 20 percent Wednesday, with the risk of rain climbing to 60 percent Thursday and 70 percent Friday.Check today’s full weather report and track changes.Tuesday’s high will be in the upper 50s, about normal for early December, but afternoon readings should reach the low 70s Wednesday through Friday, Minton said.Morning lows will be in the mid-50s Wednesday and low 60s Thursday and Friday.The late week lows could set records for the warmest minimum temperatures for the date. Thursday morning’s record is 60 and the record high minimum temperature for Friday is 57, according to the National Weather Service.The normal low for the first week of December is 39 degrees.Looking ahead to a weekend full of events ranging from the SEC football championship at the Georgia Dome to the Children’s Christmas Parade that steps off at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Midtown, Minton is predicting a 40 percent chance of rain Saturday, with highs in the mid-50s and lows in the upper 40s.
