Special to SEGAZINE

The Jesup Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation have offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of offenders involved in Christmas Eve events which resulted on one dead and four wounded.

Officials have not said if the separate incidents were related but offered the reward for “offender(s) involved in these cases.”

According to Jesup Police Department reports, officers responded to a report of gunshots at 10:15 p.m. Dec. 24 to find a 25-year-old black female had crashed a 2011 Checy Malibu into a tree at the intersection of Georgia Highway 38 and Memorial Drive.

Also inside were three passengers. All four had suffered gunshot wounds, police said, adding that several bullte holes were found in the rear of the vehicle.

Reports indicate the shooting occurred at the intersection of Southwest Broad Street and Cherry Sreet, based on evidence found at the location.

In a previous incident, an armed robbery in a driveway led police to discover a dead body in the backyard of a North Whaley Street address.

Police said the victim had just pulled her Volkswagen Touareg into the driveway at 535 North Hickory Drive when a black male demanded her purse and cell phone, then escaped with her vehicle.

The vehicles was recovered at an abandoned house at 398 Walker Street and the body of a black male was found in the backyard of 548 North Whaley Street.

Both cases were turned over to the GBI.

Any one with information on either case is asked to call the Jesup Police Dapartment at 912-427-1300 or the GBI’s Kingsland office at 912-729-6198.
