Atkinson health department moves back into building it left because of mold and mildew

The Atkinson County Health Department will reopen in January in the facility it left in August because of mold and mildew, officials said.

The health department had operated temporarily from its old offices in downtown Pearson and offered some services at the WIC Clinic in Willacoochee while corrections were made to what was then a year-old facility at 461 Albany Avenue East just west of Pearson.

The health department staff will move back into the building Jan. 8 and 9 be open there from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Jan. 10, the Southeast Health District said in a prepared release.

On Jan. 13, the health department will resume normal hours, 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Fridays.

Jackie Woodard, a spokeswoman for the health district, said only that the County Commission, which owns the building, had informed the health department it could move back into its newer office.
