Elizabeth Elkins Pitman, 98, the daughter of the late James Samuel Elkins and Mary Bartlett DeFord Elkins of Waycross, died March 7, 2014 at The Cottages at Brushy Creek in Greenville, South Carolina.
Born September 6, 1915, in Waycross she graduated from Waycross High School .
She was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church in Greenville, SC. Previously, she had been an active member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Camden, SC, and Plymouth Presbyterian Church in Plymouth, NC. She was a teacher and leader of women’s groups. She also helped organize and build Morningside Presbyterian Church, a mission chapel in Camden.
In Plymouth, she was a leader and active volunteer for the Hospital Auxiliary which raised money to build a new wing for the community hospital.
