Two men have been arrested and charged in the Feb. 21 shooting death of 37-year-old Lori Michelle Holland.
Wayne County Sheriff John Carter said that Rajiv Robert Laurent, 23, was arrested by U.S. marshals in Tampa, Fla., at the end of last week but has just been returned to Wayne County. He is said to have family in Liberty County.
Carter said the second man, Robert Ray Vickers of Midway, was arrested earlier, on Feb. 23, and had been housed in the Appling County jail. Carter said it was through questioning him that information led to finding not only Laurent but also Troy Simmons, 30, of Hinesville who is in Virginia fighting extradition back to Wayne County. He is being charged with the Dec. 23, 2013, murder of Wendell Lee Jr., also of Hinesville, whose body was found in a backyard in Jesup.
Holland was gunned down in the driveway of her home on Angela Drive late on the night of Feb. 21. Carter said that the arrest of Vickers on Feb. 23 was not revealed pending further questioning of him. The questioning paid off with additional information which led law enforcement to find the others allegedly involved in the two shootings.
The sheriff said that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has worked closely with his office and other agencies to bring the investigations of the murders to this point.
