Special to SEGAZINE

The Coffee High School varsity and junior varsity tennis teams were in action earlier this week against Brantley County, and the teams combined to go 20-0 for the total sweep.

The Trojans moved to 6-0 this season with their 5-0 win over Brantley, and winners were: Ing Anusaksathien, 6-0, 6-0; Nick Duncan, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1; Kanler Cumbass, 6-3, 6-0; Drew Hattaway/Zane Dixon, 6-2, 6-3; and Amir Murvatov/Jason Tanner, 6-0, 6-3.

Coffee head coach Whit Moorman commented, “The boys played well again. It is good to have such a good start to the year, but we now have to guard against over confidence as we start region play. Brantley is a good team, and Coach Thrift really prepares them well.”

The Lady Trojans also cruised to a 5-0 win, with singles players Hannah Greene winning 6-0, 6-0, Lee Williams winning 6-2, 6-2, and Holly Vaughn taking her match 6-4, 6-2.  The doubles tandem of Sierra Childers/Amanda Thomas won 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, while the duo of Catherine Evans/Cori Henris won 6-2, 6-0.

The Lady Trojans are now 5-1 this season.

“This was a good win for the girls,” said Moorman. Brantley’s girls were an Elite 8 team last year in 3-A and have a better team this year. We are in good shape as we begin region play.”

In JV action, JB Hicks was an 8-0 winner, Hank Carmical won 8-2, Seth Hulett was an 8-4 winner, the tandem of Tyler Comer/Jaymin Patel won 8-5, and the duo of Sam Boatright/Zane Benton cruised 8-3.

The JV Trojans are now 6-2 on the season.

The Lady Trojan JV improved their record to 7-1 with their 5-0 win, and winners were: Sophia Winters (8-1), Ansley Ellis (8-4), Heidi Spikes (9-8); the duo of Shinice Pace/Stephens Preston (8-2), and the doubles team of Meagan Greene/Robyn Gillis (8-4).
