The Seattle Seahawks added some depth to the interior of their defensive line by taking Middle Tennessee State defensive tackle Jimmy Staten with their pick in the fifth round of the NFL draft, No. 172 overall.

Staten, listed at 6-foot-4, 303 pounds, played four seasons for the Blue Raiders, battling a knee injury throughout 2013 while still being named honorable mention All-C-USA. He racked up 100 career tackles (46 solo) — including 7 for loss — and 2 sacks over his college career.

The Seahawks needed some reinforcements at defensive tackle after losing Clinton McDonald and tackle/end Red Bryant in the offseason. Staten should be able to come in and compete with third-year player Greg Scruggs and second-year pros Jordan Hill and Jesse Williams to become part of the Hawks’ 2014 defensive line rotation.
