The Wayne County Board of Education is preparing to pay a tax refund of nearly $700,000.
The preparations follow last week’s announcement of a settlement between Rayonier Forest Resources and the Wayne County Board of Tax Assessors over the disputed 2008 valuation of Rayonier timberland in Wayne County.
The school board, meeting Tuesday night, passed its final budget, as advertised, for the fiscal year beginning July 1. Board Chair Ferrell Cooksey, though, expects the refund to arise as a budget amendment at the Board’s July work session.
