Tornado watch issued for Brantley

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Brantley County until 3 p.m. A flood advisory issued at 6:50 a..m. expired at 8:15 a.m.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN JACKSONVILLE FL HAS ISSUED A

 

* FLOOD WARNING FOR THE SATILLA RIVER AT ATKINSON.

* FROM WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE…OR UNTIL THE WARNING IS CANCELLED.

* AT 9:45 AM MONDAY THE STAGE WAS 12.1 FEET.

* MINOR FLOODING IS FORECAST.

* FLOOD STAGE IS 13.0 FEET.

* FORECAST…RISE ABOVE FLOOD STAGE BY WEDNESDAY EARLY AFTERNOON AND CONTINUE TO RISE TO NEAR 13.9 FEET BY SATURDAY EARLY AFTERNOON.

* IMPACT…AT 13.0 FEET…WARNER LANDING…LOUIS LANDING AND SECONDARY ROADS AROUND KOA CAMPGROUNDS BEGIN TO FLOOD.

 

THE SATILLA RIVER NEAR ATKINSON IS FORECAST TO REACH FLOOD STAGE ON WEDNESDAY AND REMAIN ABOVE FLOOD STAGE THROUGH THE END OF THIS WEEK. AN ADDITIONAL 2 TO 4 INCHS OF RAINFALL ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY OVER SOUTHEASTERN GEORGIA WILL CAUSE ADDITIONAL RISES ON THE RIVER. RESIDENTS AND THOSE WITH INTERESTS ALONG THE RIVER NEED TO MONITOR THE LATEST STATEMENTS AND WARNINGS FOR UPDATED INFORMATION ON THIS DEVELOPING SITUATION.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

SAFETY MESSAGE…RESIDENTS AND THOSE WITH INTERESTS ALONG THE RIVER SHOULD TAKE ACTION TO PROTECT THREATENED PROPERTY. HIGH AND FAST FLOWING RIVERS ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR RECREATION OF ANY KIND. KEEP CHILDREN AWAY FROM FLOODED AREAS. DO NOT DRIVE VEHICLES THROUGH FLOODED AREAS. TURN AROUND…DON`T DROWN.
