Zornes charged with battery in domestic violence case

The Brantley County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 50-year-old Boots Harrison Road man on charges of domestic violence this week.

Merriell Zornes was arrested and charged with battery after deputies were called to the residence in the 1500 block of Boots Harrison Road to a domestic dispute. Zornes had been involved in an altercation with his father and admitted to pushing his father to the ground during the altercation.

Deputies responded to the area of the 7700 block of Ft. Mudge Road in reference to Identity Theft/Financial Transaction Fraud. The complainant stated some individual had obtained their debit card information and had made purchase in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.

Deputies responded to the area of Patterson Road in reference to Child Abuse. After further investigation it was found the incident was found to have occurred in Wayne County and turned over to the Department of Family and Children’s Services.

Deputies responded to the area of Hwy #301 North in reference to an Unruly Juvenile. The complainant stated their daughter was trying to strike them with a bat. The incident was turned over to the Department of Family and Children’s Services.

Deputies responded to the area of East Cleveland Street in reference to Financial Transaction Card Fraud. The complainant stated some unknown person had used their debit card to make unauthorized on-line purchases.

Deputies responded to the Brantley County Sheriff’s Office to meet with a complainant in reference to Harassing Phone Calls in the area of the 10000 block of Raybon Road West. The complainant stated the offender is repeatedly calling them and leaving unwanted voicemails.

Deputies responded to the area of the 8000 block of Grace Baptist Church Road in reference to Criminal Trespass. The complainant stated they had been away for a few days and some unknown person had broken a window out of their residence.

Deputies responded to the area of North Main Street, Nahunta in reference to Stalking. The complainant stated the offender (her ex-husband) had followed her to the Piggly Wiggly. The complainant stated he had no legal rights to the children and had asked him to leave them alone, but he would not leave.

Deputies responded to the area of the 5800 block of Central Avenue in reference to Theft by Taking. The complainant stated the offender had taken two flat screened televisions, two washing machines, two dryers, a Craftsman table saw, two dining tables, one recliner and a small portable refrigerator from their residence without permission.

Deputies responded to the area of Parakeet Court in reference to Stalking. The complainant stated the offender (her ex-boyfriend) was driving back and forth in front of their residence and had been sitting on a neighbor’s front porch to watch activity at her residence. The offender had also been sending unwanted text messages to the complainant.

Jeremiah Justin Johns (31), Lisa Michelle Davis (35) and Clinton David Sheppard (29) were arrested after deputies conducted a traffic stop on Hwy #520 and Browntown Road on a 1997 Toyota driven by Johns for Speeding. During the stop it was found that Johns’ license was suspended and a small amount of marijuana was found in Johns and Sheppard’s possession. Crews was found to have drug injection paraphernalia in her possession at the time of the stop.

Crews was charged with Possesionand Use of Drug Related Objects, Johns was charged with Driving While License Suspended or Revoked and Possession of Marijuana Less than One Ounce. Sheppard has a pending warrant for Possession of Marijuana Less than One Ounce and Open Container due to him fleeing the scene.

Deputies met with a complainant at the Hoboken Police Department in reference to Financial Transaction Card Fraud. The complainant stated some unknown person had obtained their bank account information and had wired money to South Carolina.

Deputies responded to the area of the 2000 block of Blue Jay Road in reference to an Aggravated Assault. The complainant stated he and the offender were friends and that he had went to visit the offender and knocked on the front door. The complainant waited on the offender to exit the house and when he came out he began yelling and cursing at him. The complainant stated he then walked off the front porch and the offender tried to strike him with a metal baseball bat.

Deputies responded to the area of Bluff Road in reference to Criminal Trespass. The complainant stated an unknown white male had been riding an ATV on his property without permission and had sunk the ATV in his pond.

Deputies responded to the area of the 100 block of Liles Drive in reference to a possible overdose. The victim was transported to the Mayo Health Systems Emergency Room for treatment.

Deputies responded to the area of the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue in reference to Terroristic Threats and Act. The complainant stated they have been having problems with a neighbor for some time and the neighbor is now driving back and forth in front of their residence in order to intimidate them.

Joseph Benjamin Walker (21) was arrested for DUI and Open Container after deputies stopped Walker on Hwy #520 near Hwy #110 West for traffic violations. He was found to be in possession of an open alcoholic beverage in the vehicle.

James Trevor McKenzie (20) was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana More than One Ounce, and Possession and Use of Drug Related Objects after deputies stopped McKenzie for a traffic violation and he was found to have in his possession digital scales, a small zip-lock baggie containing marijuana and a bag containing over one ounce of marijuana in his possession.

Richard Dennis Batten (47) was arrested and charged with Criminal Damage to Property 1st Degree after deputies received a call to the area of Howard Street in reference to a Hit and Run. Batten admitted to striking two vehicles at the scene. Moderate damage was reported to the victim’s vehicles.

Jeronimo Perez was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct after deputies were called to the 3600 block of Blue Jay Road in reference to an intoxicated person. Perez had arrived at the complainant’s residence and was drinking and started cursing and threatening the complainant and they called 911 to have the subject removed from the premises.

Deputies responded to the area of Central Avenue in reference to an Abandoned Vehicle. A red 2001 red Chevrolet Blazer was parked partially in the roadway near the Stop and Shop on Central Avenue. The vehicle was towed by Morgan’s Wrecker Service due to it being a hazard to traffic.

Deputies responded to the area of the 10000 block of Raybon Road West in reference to Terroristic Threats and Acts. The complainant stated the offender was making threats of bodily harm toward them and only wanted the offender removed from the premises. The offender left the residence and the complainant was instructed to contact the magistrate if further action was needed.

Deputies responded to the area of Heather Road in reference to Theft by Taking. The complainant stated the offender had taken her blue 2000 Dodge Durango without her permission. The complainant stated they just wanted the vehicle back and did not wish to press charges.

Josh Scott Thomas was traveling southbound on Buster Walker Road when a subject crossed over the center lane and struck his vehicle’s mirror causing damage. He stopped with the vehicle and the driver became very irate and began threatening him and Thomas left the scene to avoid being assaulted and called 911 to report the accident. The other party never contacted law enforcement to report the accident.

Deputies responded to the area of High Bluff Road in reference to Theft by Taking. The complainant stated some unknown person had taken a hand-held CB radio from logging equipment in the area.

Deputies responded to the area of the 1100 block of Florida Avenue in reference to Criminal Damage to Property 1st Degree. The complainant stated the offender had keyed his vehicle, his girlfriend’s vehicle and her uncle’s vehicle and had punctured the tires on the vehicles.

Deputies were dispatched to make contact with a complainant in the 2200 block of Live Oak Loop in reference to Financial Transaction Card Fraud. The complainant stated some unknown person had gotten her debit card information and had made transactions in North Carolina.

Deputies responded to the area of the 9200 block of Central Avenue in reference to Terroristic Threats and Acts. The complainant stated the offender stated he would slap her and threatened further bodily harm.

Deputies were dispatched to meet a complainant at the Brantley County Sheriff’s Office in reference to Theft by Taking in the 100 block of Ammons Loop. The complainant stated the offender had taken several items of jewelry from their residence without permission.
