SPECIAL TO SEGAZINE
Break out the polyester and polish your disco dance moves!
Golden Isles Arts & Humanities presents the dance movie that defined a generation, Saturday Night Fever (1977), for the fourth show of the annual Summer Classic Movies series at the Historic Ritz Theatre in Downtown Brunswick. The movie screens at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2013, but audiences should be there early to be sure to get free popcorn and enjoy the fun cartoons and short subjects that start at 6:30 p.m.
The movie that captured a cultural phenomenon, defined an era, and made a star of John Travolta (and earned him an Academy Award nomination), this blockbuster hit manages to combine the gotta-dance fever of a Gene Kelly movie with the gritty blue-collar New York feel of an early Sidney Lumet film. A disaffected Brooklyn youth finds his only true glory on the disco dance floor, propelled by a cheesy but unforgettable soundtrack of Bee Gees songs. “You should be dancing, yeah” – and you just may! Come in your best disco attire to win prizes in our costume contest.
In addition to the movie and the cartons and shorts, audiences can also expect other treats at this screening including free popcorn courtesy of MTR Real Estate (while it lasts), door prizes for downtown Brunswick businesses and before and after dining or drink specials from Fox’s Pizza and Tipsy McSway’s.
The series closes with a special matinee for audiences of all ages, featuring the warm and exciting Steven Spielberg classic E.T. on Sunday, August 4, at 3:00 p.m.
Admission to each show in the Summer Classic Movies series is still only $5 for all ages. For more information, please visit goldenislesarts.org or call 912-262-6934.
