Fort Gordon would be center of military cyber efforts

SPECIAL TO SEGAZINE

Military officials say they’re moving forward with a plan that will consolidate U.S. cyberspace training into a new center of excellence at Fort Gordon in east Georgia.

The Augusta Chronicle reports that the Army’s chief of staff, Gen. Ray Odierno, has approved the plan, which officials describe as one of the most significant reorganizations in American intelligence.

The newspaper reports that the Army plans to create a Cyber Center of Excellence at Fort Gordon that will “unify and modernize” all cyber-related training efforts, including those that teach how to use electronic-warfare technology to track electromagnetic activity worldwide.

Ray Harp, a spokesman for the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, said Army Secretary John McHugh is expected to approve the measure soon.
