One person is dead after drowning in the Ogeechee River on Sunday.
David Ehsanipoor with the Effingham County Sheriff Department said the body of 33-year-old William Young, of Springfield, was found near the Steel Bridge on the Ogeechee River at Georgia Highway 119, at the Bulloch county line.
According to the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office, witnesses reported that Young jumped from the bridge into the water and never surfaced.
Deputies, EMS, and Rangers from Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources all searched for Young. Rangers located him about two hours later, deceased in the Ogeechee River.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
