Savannah ordered to pay woman $12M over tree limb injury

Special to SEGAZINE

A Savannah woman has been awarded $12 million against the city of Savannah for injuries suffered when a tree limb fell on her, reports Morris News Service.

A jury on Thursday found in favor of Shanta Greene, 31, who was seriously injured on July 2, 2010, when a Live Oak tree limb fell and impaled her as she sat in the passenger seat of a pickup truck on Bee Road at 42nd Street.

Greene lost her right leg and suffered other injuries, including a brain injury, Morris said.

The jury also awarded $20,000 to her cousin, who was driving the pickup, and $10,000 to his 9-year-old son. Both suffered lesser injuries in the case, Morris reports.
